RIP Betta

As most of you know, Chris and I had a fish named Betta (have to say it with an Indian accent).  Well, we are sad to report that Betta has not survived the arrival of little Naveenie.  Betta had been with us for close to two years…we had been through a lot with this fish and will miss his happy swimming on our kitchen table.  Sorry Betta, but there was just not enough room in our lives for two mouths to feed and take care of (thank God we did not have twins!).  Poor guy…may he swim in the big Ocean in the sky…

On a side note, when we found out that Betta had passed on, we literally only had A MOMENT of silence before Naveen started crying and took away the attention from the fish bowl.  This was a very different reaction than that of our first fish…I was nearly in tears and we were so “lonely” without it that we had to go get a new fish right away.
I think Roy was the most devastated when he came to visit.  He really loved Betta and asked about him all the time.  I thought of buying a fish before Roy’s arrival so that he would not be disappointed.  However, I did not want to deceive him, so I did not go through with that plan.  I also didn’t really want to get another fish, because we honestly did not have time for it.  After we picked Roy from the airport, I broke the news to him.  After hearing the tragic event, he seemed upset.  When I asked him if he was sad, he said that he was more mortified that we sounded like we were happy while telling the story!  That comment did make us laugh- we were not happy but it was really a relief not to have to worry about feeding or cleaning the bowl.  We did tell him if we bought a fish for him, he would have to take it with him to Virginia! Haha! As you can imagine, no new fish was purchased!

Thanks Betta for a wonderful couple of years!
an empty bowl now...
