After we said our goodbyes to Mom and Roy, we headed back to the house so we could get ready for daycare orientation! Naveenie was going to daycare that next Monday, so we were going to orientation to turn in all our paperwork and spend some time in his classroom.
Needless to say, this was a very emotional day for us. We felt so bad leaving our little Naveenie in daycare. We really wanted to provide him with loving care with family around him, but that was not possible at this time (although we have put an offer to Asha and Maryann to come and live with us and help take care of him J ).
When we went back in December to the daycare, it was a much different place in Classroom A than it was on this day. Back in December, the room was so quiet with little infants all over the place. This time when we went to the daycare, those little kids were all grown up. Compared to our Naveenie, they looked so big. There were three kids who were already walking which required a lot of attention. It made us worried that Naveenie would be left alone since he didn’t require as much attention as these bigger kids. The good news was that the teachers for this room were great. One teacher is from Bangladesh—when she held Naveenie, he looked at her funny like “are you my grandma?” It was really cute.
Chris was so protective of our little one. At one point, the director of the center came into the room and asked Chris “Have you let anyone else hold him!?!” We all laughed, because Chris looked like he was not going to let him go. The teachers gave me a tour of the room and everything that would be needed for Naveenie’s first day. Every child has a color, and Naveenie’s color is brown—which just means that everything of his will be labeled by brown.
Naveen became really hungry so we stayed there and fed him. The teacher showed us a new way of burping him—it made him look like a monkey on a branch! J
That night and the next day, we just continued having heartburn on the daycare situation. We were worried that the older kids might hurt Naveen or that he might not get enough love. We did not want him to think that we abandoned him. Chris called me a million times the next day to talk about the situation and even discuss if we should look at a nanny situation. I really did not have peace about having a stranger in our house and with our baby- even though I know there are so many people that have it work fine. I finally discussed our concerns with the daycare director. She understood my concerns, and advised me that the older boys (who were walking) were moving out of the room in the next two weeks. This piece of information really made a huge difference for us. She made me feel much better about the situation.
